Care instructions

Your new Brazilian cowhide piece will give your home many years of beauty and exceptional durability all with minimal care! It’s OK to fold your cowhide rug, but it will need some time to relax after it is unfolded, creases will come out after a few days laying flat. A heavy weight like books can speed up this process. You can also steam iron the cowhide on the underside or hairy side to reduce creases more quickly.
Cowhide rugs don’t tend to move much on carpet or wooden floors, the textured leather underside has natural grip to keep the rug in place. However Velcro dots (the teeth grip kind) around the edge help stop your cowhide rug from being kicked up at the edges, a non-slip rug underlay can also be used (on hard floors i.e. wood and concrete). We recommend that you avoid putting your new cowhide in direct sunlight, this will reduce the risk of possible fading, especially our zebra printed or dyed hides. Natural cowhide rugs are fade resistant. Include your cowhide rug, furniture or cushions in your normal cleaning routine, simply vacuum or give rugs and cushions a shake outside to remove dust and small dry particles of dirt. Rotate your rug or move to a different location from time to time so that it wears evenly. You can wipe cowhides smoothly in the direction of the hair with a damp (but not wet) cloth with mild soap (non alkaline like shampoo) and water. Do not soak the hide or get it too wet.
